  • About

Fireweed Zinc’s Macmillan Pass is a high-grade, district-scale zinc project whose next resource updates should move the needle, making a strong project even better. The company has been discovering new high-grade zones each exploration season under the leadership of CEO Brandon Macdonald and Chairman John Robins. The financial and technical backing of private equity fund Ibaera Capital, now Fireweed’s largest shareholder, can only help project development.

Ibaera Capital was founded in 2012 by five partners with experience at some of the world’s largest mining companies. Three of the partners were executives with Fortescue Metals Group, the iron ore giant run by Australian billionaire Andrew Forrest. Ibaera has a global portfolio of investments and takes an active role with them, providing technical expertise and exploration knowledge.

Partner Jon Hronsky, who holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Western Australia, led the team that identified Macmillan Pass as a top-tier zinc project, globally. He is currently a principal of Western Mining Services, a consultancy that provides strategic services to the global mineral exploration industry. Dr. Hronsky is the former Manager of Strategy & Generative Services for BHP Billiton, the world’s largest mining company. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia and was recently awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his contribution to the science and practice of mineral exploration.

Ibaera focuses on “future facing minerals” – metals that will enable a greener world economy. Its investment in zinc through Fireweed Zinc fits into that vision, despite other minerals such as lithium and nickel getting more attention. Zinc, for example, is a key ingredient in the construction of offshore wind turbines.

Chief Geologist Dr. Jack Milton will outline Fireweed’s discovery successes at Macmillan Pass and explain the company’s approach to exploration on a vast, district-scale property. Much of the focus of recent exploration has been at the Boundary and Boundary West zones, where Fireweed continues to hit high-grade zinc mineralization and different types of mineralization. On November 23, for example, Fireweed reported intersecting 23.77% zinc, 3.44% lead, and 75.7 g/t silver over 10.42 m in a step-out hole at the growing Boundary West zone – which is not included in the current resource. Fireweed Zinc CEO Brandon Macdonald will join the webinar including the Q&A following the presentations.
