Rick Van NieuwenhuysePresident & CEO of Contango ORERick has more than 40 years of experience in the natural resource sector. Before joining Contango Ore in January 2020, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Trilogy Metals, who are currently developing the high- grade Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects located in the Ambler Mining District of Alaska. Trilogy is a company which was created in 2012 as a spin-out from NOVAGOLD, a well-known company he founded over 20 years ago. NOVAGOLD is currently finalizing permits for the 40 million ounce Donlin Gold Project in Southwest Alaska with partner Barrick Gold, the world’s largest gold company.
Previous to his role as Founder, President, and CEO of NOVAGOLD, he held the position of Vice President of Exploration for Placer Dome Inc. from 1990 to 1997. In addition to his international exploration perspective, Rick brings years of working experience in and knowledge of Alaska to Contango. Rick has managed projects from grassroots discovery through to advanced feasibility, production and closure. He has played a key role in setting up several other corporate entities including: Alexco - where he remains a Director - which is rejuvenating the Keno Hill Silver District in the Yukon; Tintina Resource (now Sandfire Resources America), which discovered and is now completing a feasibility study + permitting the high grade Black Butte copper project in Montana; and SolidusGold, where he is Chairman.
Rick holds a Candidature degree in Science from the Université de Louvain, Belgium, and a Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Arizona. He received the Thayer Lindsley award in 2009 for his role in the Donlin Gold discovery and the Colin Spence Award in 2016 for his role in the Bornite Discovery.
Darwin Green, B.Sc., M.Sc., P.Geo.President & CEO of HighGold MiningFounder of HighGold Mining, Darwin Green has over 20 years of experience in the mineral deposit industry in USA, Canada and Latin America, with vast knowledge and a successful history in Alaska. He has a proven record of identifying opportunities, making discoveries and executing complex advanced exploration. His corporate credentials include involvement in multiple public financings and corporate transactions, negotiating option and joint venture agreements, and developing business opportunities.
Most recently, Mr. Green served as Vice President, Exploration for Constantine Metal Resources advancing the Alaska Palmer zinc/copper deposit to the Preliminary Economic Assessment stage. Prior to that, Mr. Green oversaw resource expansion and underground development programs at the Niblack deposit on Prince of Wales Island, for which he received the Commissioner’s Award for Project Excellence by the State of Alaska. Mr. Green drives the strategy, oversees the exploration processes and leads the business development and corporation marketing for HighGold. Mr. Green holds both a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in economic geology.
Tony GiardiniPresident and CEO of Trilogy MetalsTony Giardini is the President and Chief Executive officer of Trilogy Metals. Mr. Giardini was President of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. from May 2019 to March 2020 and was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Kinross Gold Corporation from December 2012 to April 2019.He was Chief Financial Officer of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. from May 2006 to April 2012. Prior to joining Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., Mr. Giardini spent more than 10 years with Placer Dome Inc. as Vice President and Treasurer. Mr. Giardini is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant and spent 12 years with accounting firm KPMG prior to joining Placer Dome Inc.
